Every fall, many literary magazines open up for submissions of poetry, creative nonfiction, and fiction. Here are some calls you don’t want to miss.
Yale Series of Younger Poets: Yale Press is seeking manuscripts of poetry no longer than 64 pages. The selected winner will recieve $1,000 and publication with Yale University Press. The fee to submit is $25. The deadline is November 15th.
Cave Canem Fellowship: Cave Canem is selecting fellows for the 2024 Cave Canem Fellowship cohort. Selected writers will attend the Cave Canem retreat in Pittsburgh, PA all expenses paid. Send 6-8 poems for review. There is no fee to submit. The deadline is November 10th.
North American Review: The North American Review is open for the Kurt Vonnegut Short Story Prize. The fee to submit is $23. The prize is a $1,000 value for the winner. The deadline is November 30th.
American Poetry Review: APR Honickman 1st Book Prize is open to poets who have never published a full length poetry collection. The winner will recieve $3,000 and publication with Copper Canyon Press. The fee to submit is $25. The deadline is October 1st.
FIYAH Lit Mag: FIYAH, the premier speculative outlet for Black writers is open for general submissions of all genres. They are a paying outlet with no fee to submit. The deadline is October 31st.

Tennessee Williams Poetry Prize: The Tennessee Williams Literary Festival is seeking submissions for consideration for the 2023 Tennessee Williams Poetry Prize. The winner will recieve $1,000. Queer writers should submit their work here. The fee to submit is $15. The deadline is October 15th.
Pulitzer Prize: The Pulitzer Center awards six prizes of $15,000 each are given annually for books of poetry, fiction, general nonfiction, U.S. history, biography, and memoir or autobiography published in the United States during the current year. Only American authors are eligible for the poetry, fiction, general nonfiction, biography, and memoir or autobiography categories. Publish author’s should click here to learn more.
Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Scholarship: An award of approximately $66,500 is given annually to a U.S. poet for a year of travel and study outside of North America. Submit two copies of up to 40 pages of published or unpublished poetry, or two copies of a published poetry collection along with two copies of up to 20 pages of additional poetry. There is no fee to submit. The deadline is October 15th.
Gerald Cable Book Award: A prize of $1,000, publication by Silverfish Review Press, and 25 author copies is given annually for a first poetry collection. Submit a manuscript of at least 48 pages. The fee to submit is $25. The deadline is October 15th.
