The Sealey Challenge takes place every August—the goal to read a poetry chapbook or full length collection each day. Here’s a list for all you late bloomers, and last minute folks.
1) Have you heard the one about…? by Matthew E. Henry
MEH has been killin the game lately, now with 6 collections out. Here’s a free one, published by Ghost City Press this year. Ghost City Press chapbooks are donation pay what you can model.
2) BLERD: ‘80s BABY, ‘90s KID by Chris L. Butler
This isn’t just self-promo. My debut microchap, dedicated to everything awesome about growing up in the 90s is always free to read as an ebook. Enjoy.
3) Little Fleece by Gustavo Hernandez
Gus is one of my favorite poets. This is his second microchap with Ghost City Press, and third project overall.
4) unsoftened by Umang Kalra
I read this a few years ago during summer 2020, when trying to expand my reading of poets of Indian descent. This is one I remember well. Read it here.
5) Theories on Wreckage by Kanika Lawton
Lawton is a rising poet making waves in the community. Here’s one of Kanika’s microchaps, that I personally enjoyed thoroughly.
The Sealey Challenge ignites us to read more, but it doesn’t have to stop at the end of this month. Build your own Sealey Challenge and read more if you can. As writers, it’s important we are reading the work of our peers, and not just honing in on craft.
